Biography

Dr. Hubert Karreman began working in agriculture in the early 1980’s as a student, earning a bachelor degree in soil science at the University of New Hampshire. From surveying conservation practices on dairy farms, he became fascinated by dairy cows and wanted to milk cows. After a few years working with dairy cows on conventional farms he began working on a biodynamic dairy farm. He was quickly immersed in providing natural treatments for commonly encountered conditions. Seeing natural treatments work well, he decided to go to veterinary school with the goal of integrating conventional and alternative therapies. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995 and has been a dairy practitioner working with 100 organic dairy farms in the Lancaster, PA area since then. He has visited organic dairy farms around the world and was on the USDA National Organic Standards Board from 2005-2010. Dr. Karreman is an author of peer-reviewed journal articles and has written three books, Treating Dairy Cows Naturally, The Barn Guide to Treating Dairy Cows Naturally and Four-Seasons Organic Cow Care, all published by Acres USA. He is best known for his approaches in using non-antibiotic treatments for infectious disease and is co-owner of CowMaster, LLC, a small company supplying functional alternatives to antibiotics for livestock.
